What is an ombudsprogram?
Ombudsprogram combines two words: Ombudsman and program. Ombudsman is a Swedish word that means ‘representative’. An ombudsman’s job is to advocate, educate, and mediate. Medical facilities, nursing homes, hospitals, universities, government agencies, and insurance companies can all have ombudsman programs.

What is IDD?
IDD is an abbreviation for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. These are disabilities that start in childhood (before age 22) and can affect a person’s intellectual, physical, and/or emotional development. These conditions can impact a person’s ability to learn, reason, and problem-solve, as well as their social and life skills.
What is OPWDD?
OPWDD is an abbreviation for the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities. OPWDD is a New York State government agency that is in charge of getting eligible New Yorkers with Intellectual and /or Developmental Disabilities the supports and services they need.
