Community classes are a type of Self-Direction service that can be paid for under the Individual Directed Goods and Services. If you use your budget to pay for a community class, it must meet the following requirements.

  1. The class must take place in an integrated community setting.
  2. Enrollment must be open to the public, to anyone with or without a disability.
  3. Class content cannot duplicate any Medicaid State Plan or waiver service.
  4. Class subject must relate to the participant’s needs and goals that are in their Life Plan.

If you have Self-Direction and you would like to take a community class, you need to get prior approval from your fiscal intermediary.

You will want to make sure that you have enough money in your budget to cover the cost of the classes.
